A Word of Truth mission statement:
I gave my life to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in April of 1985. My wife and I have been married for 35 years and have a blended family of 8 adult children, 35 grandchildren (five recently added) and one great granddaughter! We are active in our church which is non-denominational, Christ-centered, Bible based and led by the Holy Spirit. My wife and I believe that salvation is by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). We believe that our good works are a result of our salvation and God’s working in our lives to give us the desire and power to do His will; a “get to” and not a “have to.”
We both recognize the responsibility that in order to share the truth with others, we need to better understand and live the truth. Do we do that perfectly? Of course not! We are all works in progress (Philippians 1:6). We believe we are saved the moment we give our lives to Jesus and submit to His will. His Spirit then resides in us as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) who gives us the desire, power and wisdom to do what He intends for us to do. Our actions are not for our salvation but a result of our salvation.
Since we are works in progress, we desire to continuously grow to be more like Christ for His glory and for the blessings that come with a deepening and abiding relationship with Him. The result is peace and joy that does not come from anything offered in this world. It only comes from Him.
That is why I have long desired to develop a resource that offers some simple tools that I have put together in the course of being involved with other men who desire to know and serve Christ; to be “iron that sharpens iron” (Proverbs 27:17). Since the Covid-19 pandemic, I have attempted to create short, concise lessons that meet (mostly) the following criteria:
- Encouragement: Information that encourages learning about the doctrines of the Christian faith and basic precepts of the Bible.
- Accuracy: The lessons must be Biblically accurate and without contradictions with the teachings of Scripture. In areas that are my own opinion, I intend to state this as such. I also realize my interpretation of some may differ from that of others.
- God honoring: God deserves the glory and honor for the content of any tool used to bring us closer to Him. It must remain all about Him and not about us, otherwise it will lose its power to change lives and draw us closer to the Father and our precious risen Savior.
- Brevity: The lessons created are intended to be brief with an attempt to hold one’s attention span while encouraging more in-depth study on one’s own.
- Life changing: In order for anything to be life changing, it must be applied personally. It must not be for purposes to “inform” but to “transform.” To do this, I try to stick to the “inductive study method” that utilizes the concept of observation (what does it say; who, what, where, when, why, how), interpretation (what does it mean) and application (how to apply this truth in my life).
- Easily transmitted and shared: I desire tools that reflect the teachings of the Scripture that can easily be disseminated to others who are interested.
For Christ and His glory,
Marty
